Consultancy
If computing or Information Technology isn’t your thing it can be difficult to know where to go – and who to trust – for sound, impartial advice; and especially so if your company doesn’t have its own IT department. If you find yourself in that situation, or would value a second opinion, then I’d be happy to help. Of course, this is easier if you’re already a client and you’ve established a trust relationship with me. But even if this isn’t the case there’s no harm in asking.
I define consultancy as ‘expert analysis and advice which facilitates decision making’. I know a lot about IT and have many contacts in the industry. If I’m unable to advise you (and I’d tell you straight) there’s a good likelihood I’ll be able to give you a contact of someone who could help.
In terms of offering advice I can be either pro-active or passive.
If required, I’ll be pro-active in the advice I offer. In the course of developing reports and working closely with your staff I may notice areas of weakness, vulnerability or inefficiency which I know could be addressed by advances in technology (which you or your staff simply may not be aware of. It’s very easy to do something one way because it’s always been done like that). You may not like the advice – because it’ll likely involve change and cost – but if there’s a more efficient way of achieving the same I’d be doing you a disservice by keeping quite. The least I can do is offer the advice; whether you act on it or not is up to you.
The second mode of operation is passive. I’ll only offer advice when or if my opinion is sought – and only then within the bounds of the request.
If you seek my help for report writing or/and consultancy let me know which option you’d prefer.
